Refund Policy

We want you to feel confident buying tickets on UniTix. Here's exactly when you're eligible for a refund and how to get one fast.

01 Overview

UniTix is a platform that connects students with event hosts. When you buy a ticket, your contract is with the event host β€” UniTix facilitates the transaction. Our refund policy aims to be fair to both attendees and hosts.

Our promise: If an event is cancelled by the host, you will always receive a full refund of the ticket price you paid. No questions asked.

For other situations β€” like changing your mind or missing an event β€” eligibility depends on the circumstances. Read on for the full details.

02 When You Are Eligible for a Refund

You were charged twice for the same ticket (duplicate payment)
Your ticket was not delivered within 1 hour of payment
The event was materially misrepresented (e.g. advertised performers did not appear)

You changed your mind after purchasing
You couldn't attend due to personal reasons
You did not use your QR code at the door
The event went ahead as advertised but you were unsatisfied
You purchased a ticket for the wrong event by mistake
The request is made after the event has ended

03 Change of Mind & General Non-Eligibility

UniTix does not offer refunds for change-of-mind purchases. Once a ticket is purchased and delivered, it is yours β€” responsibility to attend lies with you. This is consistent with standard practice for event ticketing platforms in Nigeria and internationally.

We strongly encourage you to confirm your availability before purchasing. Use the "See Who's Going" feature to check if your friends are attending before you commit.

Some event hosts may offer their own more generous refund terms. If an event listing states "Refunds available up to 48 hours before the event", those terms take precedence and you can request through our platform.

04 Cancelled Events

If an event host cancels their event, UniTix will issue a full refund of the ticket face value to all affected buyers automatically. You do not need to submit a refund request.

What happens when an event is cancelled

  • UniTix is notified by the host or detects the cancellation.
  • All ticket holders are notified by email and WhatsApp within 2 hours.
  • Full refunds are processed automatically within 3–5 business days to your original payment method.
  • The event host's payout is withheld pending resolution of all refunds.

Automatic refunds: You don't need to do anything. We handle cancelled event refunds automatically for all ticket holders.

05 Postponed Events

If an event is postponed to a new date, your ticket will remain valid for the new date. However, if you cannot attend the rescheduled event, you are eligible for a full refund.

  • UniTix will notify you of the new date by email and WhatsApp as soon as the host confirms.
  • You have 7 days from the postponement announcement to request a refund for the new date.
  • If no refund is requested within 7 days, your ticket is automatically transferred to the new date.
  • If the new date has already passed before you were notified, you are automatically entitled to a full refund.

06 How to Request a Refund

For situations where refunds are not automatic (e.g. duplicate charges, undelivered tickets, significant misrepresentation), follow these steps:

Use the subject line: "Refund Request β€” [Event Name] β€” [Order ID]". You'll find your Order ID in your ticket confirmation email.

Include your details
Your full name, registered email address, Order ID, the reason for your refund request, and any supporting evidence (e.g. screenshot of a duplicate charge).

We review within 24 hours
Our team will review your request and respond with a decision within 24 hours on business days. We may contact the event host for verification.

Refund processed
If approved, the refund is sent to your original payment method. See the timeline section below for processing times.

07 Refund Timeline

Once a refund is approved, processing times depend on your payment method:

  • Card payments (Debit/Credit): 3–7 business days to appear on your card statement, depending on your bank.
  • Bank transfer (USSD / Direct Transfer): 1–3 business days back to your bank account.
  • Paystack Balance: Instant if the refund is returned to your Paystack wallet.

Refund processing times are partly outside UniTix's control β€” once we initiate a refund, your bank determines the final delivery time. If your refund hasn't arrived within 7 business days of approval, contact us with your approval reference and we'll follow up with Paystack.

08 For Event Hosts

As an event host on UniTix, you are responsible for delivering the event as advertised. Here is how refunds affect your payout:

  • Cancelled events: Your payout is fully withheld until all ticket holder refunds are processed. If the total refunds exceed your payout balance, UniTix will recover the difference from future earnings or your registered account.
  • Postponed events: Your payout is held until the new event date has passed. Refunds to attendees who opted out are deducted from your payout.
  • Approved attendee refunds: Any refund approved by UniTix due to misrepresentation or host fault will be deducted from your payout.

Hosts who repeatedly cancel events or fail to deliver events as advertised may have their accounts suspended and be required to repay outstanding refund amounts.

09 Disputes

If you disagree with a refund decision, you may escalate by emailing hello@unitix.ng with your original request details and the reason for your disagreement. A senior member of our team will review the case independently within 48 hours.

UniTix's decision following an escalation review is final. If you believe you have been the victim of fraud by an event host, you may also report the matter to the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Unit or the Consumer Protection Council (CPC).
